On April 3rd, 2018, Secretary General LOU Qinjian, Communist Party Committee of Jiangsu Province paid an inspection visit to Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO), Chinese Academy of Sciences, accompanied by President of Nanjing Branch, YANG Guishan, PMO Director, YANG Ji, and PMO Vice Director, ZHAO Changyin. Director YANG Ji firstly gave a brief report about the observatory. Secretary Lou appreciated the long history, the advanced technological facilities and the recent academic achievements of PMO, especially China's first Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) Satellite "Wukong" which was launched into sun-synchronous orbit in December, 2015. In particular, he praised the first scientific results "Wukong" acquired, which was published in Nature on November 30, 2017 and might shed light on the existence of particle dark matter. He emphasized that PMO was China’s first modern astronomical institution, and was of great significance to facilitate further innovation in astronomical science and technology in Jiangsu. |
