The Opening ceremony for first-year postgraduates in Jiangsu of UCAS was held in Institute of Soil Science of Nanjing branch on 3 September. Attendants included Dong Junshe, vice president of UCAS, leaders in charge of education of Jiangsu unit, tutors and new postgraduates, more than 300 people in total. Gu Xiaohong, vice president of Nanjing branch, presided over the opening ceremony.

President Dong delivered a speech and sincerely welcomed new graduates on behalf of UCAS. He hoped that they kept learning and practicing to be person of integrity and ability, of lofty ideals, of responsibility and of nobility. He also hoped that they could grasp their own life, while UCAS is willing to do its best to help them.

Prof. Fan Yizhong of PMO, member of "Hundred Talents Program" of CAS, also spoke as representative of tutors. Combined with his own experience, he encouraged postgraduates to focus on improving leadership ability while learning professional knowledge and skills.

Hongjie, PhD of Institute of Soil Science of CAS, said that he would cherish the opportunity to study in UCAS and look forward to more opportunities and a more fruitful future. He believed that the spirit of CAS and the cultural traditions of UCAS would be inherited. Graduates of UCAS will become innovative and entrepreneurial talents with expectations for severing the country.

President Gu pointed in his speech that the new semester both brought new challenges and new opportunities. He sincerely hoped that every graduate put their whole-heart into study and research, strive hard for advancing the “lead action plan” and achieving a new leap of CAS.
