On January 13, Zhang Jinghua, secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, successively visited Institute of Soil Science and Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and listened to the report by Nanjing Branch and other universities and institutes in Jiangsu.

In Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Yang Qun, the institute director, firstly reported the basic situation. Zhang Jinghua then visited State Key Laboratory of Palaeontology and Stratigraphy, the technology service center and the herbarium. He gave special attention to the application of GBDB database in shale gas exploration independently developed by the institute. He hoped that the institute would further strengthen the research force and make more contribution to the social development of the city of Nanjing.

Later in the Institute of Soil Science, Zhang Jinghua visited the soil specimen museum and listened to the introduction of the basic situation of Nanjing Branch and other CAS institutes in Jiangsu. He then visited State Key Laboratory of Soil and Sustainable Agriculture and talked with the scientists about the research progress they have acquired in improving land capability, solving heavy metal pollution in soil, etc.
