In 2017, Associate Prof. YANG Shihai and Prof. WANG Guomin from Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology (NIAOT), CAS, acquired an invention patent authorized in the United States of America, which is named Control System for Implementing Non-Linear Interference/Compensation for Torsion Angle of Astronomical Telescope. The details are as follows: Patent No. 9,599,809 B2. Issue date: 03/21/2017. Application No. US14/423,735 (based on PCT/CN2013/077907).

This is the first international invention patent of NIAOT.

In the patent, a control system for implementing non-linear interference compensation for a torsion angle of an astronomical telescope is proposed. By torsion angle compensation and amendment in real time, the driving wheel rotation axial line and the driven wheel rotation axial line are always kept parallel to each other in order to form compensation to the torsion angle. In this way, fluctuation of the system is removed and thus, the telescope can track in higher accuracy and move in ultra-low speed with more stability.
