On May 11, Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO) and China Three Gorges University (CTGU) cooperated to set up CTGU Astronomy & Space Science Center, and the signing ceremony was held at CTGU. PMO President YANG Ji, CTGU President HE Weijun, and CAS Academician HAN Zhanwen attended the unveiling ceremony. Prof. HAN Zhanwen from Yunnan Observatories, CAS was appointed chairman of the academic committee. Meanwhile, Prof. JI Haisheng from PMO was appointed director of the center, and Prof. JIANG Zhibo from PMO was appointed deputy director. CTGU Astronomy & Space Science Center will play a major role in visiting graduate student programs in astronomy and space sciences, astronomical instrument technician training, frontier research, joint academic seminars, joint astronomical summer camps, etc. In recent years, CTGU has made significant achievements in astronomical research such as stellar kinematic statistics and flat field processing for solar image, which have laid a good foundation for academic cooperation. The joint center will be an important platform for further academic and educational cooperation between PMO and CTGU in future.
