On 16th. April 2015, the Acceptance Conference of the Antarctic Bright Star Survey Telescope (BSST), which was developed by Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology and the University of Science and Technology of China was held in Yunnan Observatory (Lijiang Observation site).
The Acceptance Conference was organized by Chinese Polar Research Center. Some experts in the fields of astronomy, who were from Chinese Polar Research Center, National Astronomical Observatories, Yunnan Observatories, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University and other units were invited to attend the conference. Other experts in the field of the financial, management, service of the Antarctic Station were also attended. This Conference was hosted by Liu Kefeng, who was from the department of Science and Technology of the Chinese Polar Research Center. Prof. Zhou Xu (National Astronomical Observatories) was acceptance group leader, other members included Prof. Zhou Jilin (Nanjing University) and Prof. Wang Xiaofeng (Tsinghua University).
The Antarctic Bright Star Survey Telescope consists three parts: main equipment (developed by the Institute of Nanjing of Astronomical Optics & Technology) including optic design, telescope frame and control system, CCD and remote control & integration system (both were developed by the University of Science and Technology of China). Associate Prf. Du Fujia reported the developing of BSST and test results. Acceptance group members listened carefully to the person in charge of the project, reviewed the relevant documents and reports, queried and on-site inspected.
The test observation results of BSST showed that the image quality was excellent. In R band, the magnitude of observation limit was 17.5 under 120 seconds exposure time, and the signal to noise ratio was 20. In V band, the magnitude of observation limit was 16 under 120 seconds exposure time, and the signal to noise ratio was 40. The experts confirmed that, based on the observation data in Lijiang station through a whole week, the performance of BSST was stable and reliable, and all the design requirements were achieved. As a wide field of view telescope, BSST was of great important to the development of Chinese Antarctic Astronomy. All the experts agreed that BSST passed the acceptance.
The diameter of BSST primary mirror is 30cm, the field of view is 4.8°. It was planned to find a batch of extrasolar planets on the short periodic (days) and medium-short periodic (ten days to a month) orbits under the Antarctic site conditions. After completing the test in Lijiang, BSST would be shipped to Antarctic Zhongshan Station and the further test also would be done. It was hopped to realize the high precision photometric observation in the polar night environment and provide massive data for astronomers.
