Australia Ambassador MS Frances Adamson visits CAS Nanjing

The Australia Ambassador to China MS Frances Adamson and her retinue visited Nanjing branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences on Dec.5, 2012. Major leaders of institutes of CAS Nanjing, researchers and directors of foreign affairs had a meeting with the ambassador which was hosted by Gu Xiaohong, vice president of Nanjing Branch.

 

President Gu first expressed a warm welcome to the visit of Ms. Frances Adamson and her retinue on behalf of CAS Nanjing. This visit is MS Frances Adamson’s first official visit to Jiangsu province. Despite the busy schedule, the ambassador would like to visit the CAS Nanjing, which reflects that she and the Australian government pay much attention to Chinese Academy of Sciences, and to the scientific innovation of economic and social development of Jiangsu Province.

 

He hoped that through this visit and communication, the ambassador could know better about the work of institutes of Nanjing Branch and promote broad and in-depth cooperation between CAS and science and technology educational institutions in Australia in future bilateral work. President Gu also introduced the basic situation about CAS Nanjing.

 

The ambassador spoke highly of the cooperation between CAS and CSIRO, and she pointed out that China had become Australia's third largest scientific research cooperation country. Both China and Australia take the lead in science research area and keep close touch with scientifically and technologically developed nations. She said that she had seen Bai Chunli, the President of CAS, several times, but this is the first time she went to the branch of CAS. She hoped that through this visit, she could know better about the potential of science and technology cooperation in the future. The ambassador also said that as soon as she returned to Australia, she would report to relevant leaders about this visit.

 

Zhao Yangwei, Director of International cooperation division of Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Province, introduced the scientific and technological work and the international cooperation in Jiangsu. Representatives of institutes of Nanjing Branch introduced their basic situation, key research fields and international cooperation, especially the cooperation between China and Australia. Some researchers suggested bilateral agreement of cooperation in science and technology should be signed in order to further promote cooperation and exchanges.

 

After the meeting, the ambassador visited the museum of Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology.
